He mixes vibrant colors on His tray: Bright red and yellow, orange, blue and green. The Painter dabs them each in wild array, Composing here a wondrous autumn scene.
But then He sets aside those vibrant hues, And anxious children watch with great delight, As He, with thoughtful smile, begins anew And drowns His canvas with a coat of white.

Comments Jeff Howe Dec 17, 2008 | Where the comparison of God being a painter is not a new one, especially when it comes to autumn, the turn at the end of covering over it all with white is what makes this poem take off. Those of us who have painted know what it is like to cover over what we previously painted in order to have a fresh blank canvas to start over with. Liked the piece lots. ~Posted by Jeff Howe, Dec 17, 2008 | Douglas Dec 17, 2008 | Thanks, Jeff. :) ~Posted by Douglas, Dec 17, 2008 | gabemay Mar 3, 2010 | i get the part of God being the Painter, but who are the children? ~Posted by gabemay, Mar 3, 2010 | Douglas Mar 4, 2010 | The children would be anyone who likes playing in the snow, or enjoys the beauty of winter. ~Posted by Douglas, Mar 4, 2010 |
