The following is a piece of writing submitted by Michael Pratt on November 22, 2008
"This is a devotional I created and presented to my church choir a year or so ago. I enjoyed this one."

The Faithul One

Faithful has many different similar words with it. It can also be devoted, scrupulous, allegiant, strict, unswerving, ardent, thorough and unwavering just to name a few. I had a lot of time to think about this and Tuesday morning about 5:30am God showed me three characteristics that someone has who is faithful! It doesn’t surprise me that with the current situation I am in that God allowed me to do a devotion on The Faithful One.

You think about all the people of the bible other than Christ that were faithful in addition to him. Even in this church I can name a few! Those are people of God that you desire to be like. Or should I say when I grow up I want to be like you!

Abram – Probably one of the greatest faithful people in the bible. If you have your bibles and want to follow along go ahead.

Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
(Genesis 12:1-4)

Abraham didn’t know why God wanted him to move. All that he knew is God said and it that settled it. Abraham was so faithful that he would have slain his son for God if God had not intervened!

And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together. And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
(Genesis 22:7-12)

On page 2 and 3 it states in the first part this song “I find no hope with in to call my own for I am frail of heart my strength is gone.” What is that next word? BUT deep within my soul is rising up a song, here in the comfort of the faithful one.

God showed me that being faithful shows your Devotion!

What is your devotion? We all have one where does your devotion stand what or who do you devote your time and energy in? Cars? Money? Your job? Where does your devotion to our Lord stand? Even in trials and tribulations where is your devotion? Is it horizontal or is it vertical?

The music then goes on to say “And though with feet unsure I will keep pressing on.” In this particular section I think of Paul and his life! He wrote most of the New Testament and spent most of his time sharing the Gospel with anyone who would listen. Another person that comes to mind as well is Leo Humphrey!

(1 Corinthians 9:19-23)
For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

The next characteristic is that:

Being faithful shows your Determination!

Selling out for God you are determined to do all that it takes to serve him and bring glory and honor to him no matter what the cost! You may be going through some things you may be physically tired or emotionally distressed but what is your determination? Is it toward God to bring him glory and honor and praise? I can say that there are times in my life that I am not determined. I am either too tired or my fear gets in the way because the Holy Spirit is telling me to witness to some stranger. Ask yourself where is your devotion? IS God telling you to do something you think you’re not ready for or you think you are not qualified for? Maybe it’s singing a solo or in a quartette?

Finally God showed me something that we all need for the world!
Being faithful shows God’s Domination in your life!

On page 9 and 10 of the music is says “And when the day is dawned and when the race is run, I will bow down before Gods only Son. And I will lift my hands in praise for all you’ve done and I will worship you my faithful one!”

Paul was faithful because he had Gods Domination in his life! Even with a thorn in his flesh!

And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
(2 Corinthians 12:7-10)

If we are to be salt and light in this world God needs to have domination in our lives. Is my walk showing Gods domination in my life? Does going through times of trials and tribulations cause me to look defeated? When I worked at H&R Block there was a blind person there his name I believe was John. I walked by his cube one day and low and behold I stood there and watched in amazement as he took apart a laptop and replaced a hard drive and put it all back together and fixed it! I thought about how we as people that have our site and have all our limbs and have a house and everything that God could possibly give to us and yet when we get in a dilemma we flop and twitch like a fish out of water! IF when we go through trials and tribulations and we still have God’s Domination this alone will bring glory to Him and show the people around us and the world that Jesus Christ is the way the truth and the life! And Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)

Faithfulness shows our Devotion to God
Faithfulness shows our Determination to God
Faithfulness shows God’s Domination in our life!

(Hebrews 3:1-2) Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

God could have not died on the cross he could have chosen not to become the sacrifice to the sins of the whole world but he did! If that is not faithful to us then what is? He is the FAITHFUL ONE!
