They are always there at the Farmer's Market, selling their blackberries or homemade jams. Mostly they are women. Caps top their plain hairstyles. Occasionally a tendril of hair will escape and lend a suggestion of femininity to these nonconformist ladies whose dress suggests a simpler life style. But is it really simpler, or are these ladies enslaved by a life style that prohibits their exploring the world of the 21st century. I would like to ask them but they seem so unapproachable. The older women guard the younger ones much as a hen protects her chicks. Usually one or two mature males are with the group; they appear more world knowledgeable than the ladies.
