From where I stand...

So many shattered broken lives
are represented here.
So many haunted distant eyes
reflect an inner fear.
So many returned loved ones –
damaged well beyond repair:
a splintered mind, a fractured body,
more than some can ever bear.
Sights seen, unspoken of
So many broken lives –
Why war I wonder?
I shed a silent tear.
