I’ve been on this vessel for seven years. The crew’s OK and I’m over my fears. We’re heading for some distant star. I never knew it would be so far. I work quite hard most every day. The food is good though I get no pay, The work’s not dull, though the hours are long, But I don’t mind because I’m strong. With miles of pipe to check for holes Doing it well is one of my goals. At least I’m safe as I wasn’t on earth, And now I want to prove my worth To all the ones who rescued me, From the vanishing forest with nary a tree. It’s not in my nature to feel great malice Against the humans who were so callous Destroying the world with all their greed, Never caring what other species need. So now I’m working on this ship And nimbly up and down I nip. In swinging and climbing I have great flair. For I am the Duct Ape extraordinaire.
