Galahs
With pink and grey plumage And a raucous squawk Afraid of nothing Until the hawk hovers near. The alarm is raised And almost as one They rise and turn and then are gone.
The feeding flock when on the ground Their waddling gaits belie The acrobatic skills and their mastery of the sky.
Roosting in a drought dead tree Cockatoos chatter then hush. Soft pink grey blossoms on every branch In the fading light are the tree's last chance To be beauteous as spring’s first blush.

Comments Douglas Jul 6, 2008 | Nicely done - I think I like this best of the things you've written so far! Just one small thing: I think after the line And almost as one you don't want a period, as the next line is part of the same sentence. ~Posted by Douglas, Jul 6, 2008 |
