I think our parents thought having fun made you catch it

When I was a child, it was our biggest fear
A deadly disease, how you caught it unclear
Rumors of prevention, our parents tried them all
No swimming after lunch, no hikes in the fall
They all mattered little for there was no way
To prevent deadly polio from coming your way
Then the good Doctor Salk came from out of his lab
He slay the monster and headlines he did grab
Big Pharma wanted money didn't care about shame
Yet Doc Salk wasn't interested in money or fame
He said 'my vaccines for the people and that's my choice'
He saved my generation and for that I rejoice
