Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by R. Wesley Lovil on August 31, 2008

Labor Day

After having a job for 47 years I have finally retired to enjoy the friuts of my labor so to speak. It is amazing how I slipped right into retirement. You would think that I wouldn't be able to fill my day, but no I have not had any problems like that.
As a working person you really don't have the time to be your self. Your are described by what you do, what your job is, not by who you are. In my retirement I have more time for reflextion on many things that seemed unimportant when I was a working man. I now feel that those unimportant things are what makes life interesting. Under closer inspection we can see a better quality of life.
I will say retirement life is slower but that is not a bad thing. There is no reason to rush now. All of this is hard on my wife who is still a working person. I am sure I drive her crazy. When we were both working we had little time to enteract ,with just basic politness between us. We enjoyed each other but had little time for each other. Now that I have more time and want to get closer to her she is still traped in the working world and still needs space when she gets home to unwind. I feel this is really not a problem that can't be fixed but just an adjustment that we will work out.
In closing I say enjoy your job but believe me when I say you will enjoy retirement better
