The Toast - A Sonnet

It's not like I have nothing better to do with my time than write silly stuff like this...

I raised my crystal glass to make a toast,
I lifted it on high, above my head;
Before I spoke a word or two at most,
That silly glass - it toasted me instead!
"My friend," it said, "if you will now permit,
I'd like to say, I am your biggest fan.
With grace and charm, good looks and clever wit,
You are my hero, and a super man."
Perplexed I paused to catch a breath of air,
And stared, astonished, at my bubbly drink.
It spoke again, with such dramatic flair,
And as it spoke, it gave a little wink.
"Why do you look at me with such disdain?
I'm just the complimentary champagne!"

Fantasticly funny, great extended pun work all in strong sonnet form. Enjoyed immensely.
