Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by Sylvan Sylph on October 25, 2008

Fistfuls of Sand

I let you slip through my fingers
So willingly, yet unwillingly.
I never tried to keep you from going,
But how I wished you would stay.
To hold to you more tightly
Would only force you away.

Now we are strangers;
We pass each other by.
We pretend it's all the same,
But our laughter is a lie.
My smiles are empty;
There is pain in your eyes.

Your choices drive us apart.
My choices drove you away.
There is nothing left for saving
At the end of every day.
I let you slip through my fingers
Like sand falling to the shore,
So willingly, yet unwillingly.
I couldn't hold on to you anymore.
