Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by KC Rell on August 18, 2008
"I just really enjoyed writing this poem. Hope you enjoy reading it!"

Born

This wet salt
spills from my eyes,
choking and drowning
me mercilessly.
There is only a blur.
A wet, unending blur.
Stay with me.

I feel cold,
like a midnight walk
on cold, hard cement.
There is only shivers.
Cold, strong shivers.
Stay with me.

There is loud shouts
echoing through
my head
bouncing back and forth.
It hurts.
Will it ever stop?
Stay with me.

This strange stinging
interrupts my thoughts.
It smells of flowers...
until it drenches me.
I don't like this.
Sticky, smelly.
Stay with me.

Something cold
fills a place in my chest
and it burns.
I try to stop,
and the shouts repeat.
Stay with me.

Finally,
the man who is the light
tells me he has to
leave me.
He tells me I'm safe now,
and I'll see him again.

Warm, soft hands
hold me.
I am wrapped in something
itchy,
but the words of a woman,
soft and gentle,
make it all okay.

"Open your eyes, my precious
Sam.
I'm with you."
