Every year, the autumn rattles shutters - Elicits from the trees a rousing flutter Of leaves to fill and densely clog the gutter.
At which point I then begin to mutter, And then, indoors, to retrieve the faithful putter To drag along the sides and clear the gutter.
To clear a path for water, To drip as down a sink, A smooth, relentless flow - As I desire to think - A paper on which to scrawl My clogging mental ink, To watch the seasons change, And let the senses blink.
