Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by Douglas on October 27, 2013

A novel about a novella

If I was going to write a novel for NaNoWriMo, I would write about a school where all the students were challenged by their English teacher to write a novel for NaNoWriMo. But the novel wouldn't be about the English students.

No, it would be about the nerdy math teacher who thought it was unfair that all the English students got to do cool stuff like writing novels while he was stuck teaching them about x and y and the quadratic formula.

So he decided to do some writing of his own. Knowing that he didn't have a lot of spare time, he didn't commit to writing a novel. Instead he decided to write a short story, and he wasn't even sure if he'd have time to do that. Fortunately, since he had a newborn child in the house, he was always up at 3:00 AM every morning, and that became his time to sit in his quiet office and write.

After three weeks of writing, he realized that his short story, called The Age of Europa, was long enough that it was no longer a short story - it was a novella. And he completed it with time to spare.

Wait a minute - that's not a novel - that's a true story! And now this nerdy math teacher is wondering why he never posted his novella on Fifteen Minutes of Fiction!
