To Tommy

Posted by Douglas, Jul 20. 148 views. ID = 1503
This post was written in 15 minutes.
Every week at camp, during one of my lessons I'll talk about Jesus' words "I am the resurrection and the life", which leads me to talking about Tommy. So, I've been thinking about him a bit more this summer than at other times.

Quatrain #1: grief
Quatrain #2: time
Quatrain #3: guilt
Couplet: realization

You seem so close at hand it hurts, some days,
Brought back to mind by simple things and small:
A place, a time, a memory or phrase
Cause sudden, stubborn tears again to fall.
But life, with all its joys and perils fraught,
Proceeds from day to day in constant flow,
And often weeks will pass without a thought
Of you, who left us, not so long ago.
And then I wonder how it seems to you,
As grief gives way to ever bright'ning dawn,
And with the passing time our joys renew,
And we begin, at last, our moving on.
But then I laugh inside as I recall:
In moving on, my friend, you've passed us all.
