Writing Prompt: National Poetry Writing Month - Week Four

Writing prompt April is National Poetry Writing Month, so we will devote this month to poetry writing prompts.

Our final challenge for this month is to write a sonnet. Perhaps some of us have had to do this in high school, or have simply done it for fun. Even for those familiar with the form, it can be a challenge, but also a good poetic discipline. Sonnets (Elizabethan sonnets, that is) are 14 lines of rhyming iambic pentameter (3 quatrains with a couplet at the end), but for more detailed information on the meter and form of a sonnet, please see our article about Elizabethan Sonnets. For information on the Italian sonnet form, see Merriam-Webster.
