One day I visited the market. There I spied an old lamp. Intrigued I asked the stall owner. The owner told me it belonged to Aladdin. Of course I didn’t believe him. When I got home, I gave the lamp a good polish and then the most unexpected thing happened - a Genie popped out.
"You're my master. You have three wishes!" the Genie boomed.
Startled by the Genie’s appearance I blurted out my three wishes.
"One - to be a writer. Two - to see my name in print and three - fame."
"Granted," the Genie bellowed.

I get the sense that this is supposed to be a surprise, or "twist" ending, but I missed it, because "writing material" seemed ambiguous to me.
Did he give you a topic to write about (an idea for a novel, perhaps)?
Or did he give you the materials with which to write (pen an paper)? ~Posted by Douglas, Jan 25, 2016
