Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by Douglas on December 27, 2015
"This is intended to be a carol similar in structure to "Do you hear what I hear," in which each character speaks to another character in the song. Hopefully by next Christmas I'll have it put to music. :)"

Far from Home, so Far from Home

The little lamb let out a bleat,
"I left the fields of grass so green,
Cavorting through the moonlit night
To join this joyous stable scene.
Far from home, so far from home
To see this baby I would roam.
"

Said the shepherd to the lamb below,
"I have a family, snug in bed
While I am trudging through the snow
To follow where the angels led
Far from home, so far from home
To see this baby I would roam.
"

Then mother Mary spoke her piece,
"To Bethlehem by dreary road,
Commanded by the Roman Caesar,
Brought Him to this low abode.
Far from home, so far from home
To have this baby I would roam.
"

And from the east, the wise men came,
"The months of desert roads we trod,
To bring this child his due acclaim
And bow before the son of God.
Far from home, so far from home
To see this baby we would roam.
"

But silent was the little child,
A'lying in his manger bed,
And as in silent mirth he smiled,
His simple presence loudly said,
"Far from home, so far from home
For love of all mankind I roam.
"
