At the side of our house runs a pathway
oak leaves,crackle and whisper underfoot
as we wend our way single file through wood
over the old stone bridge above the stream
and catch our breath at view of sunlit field
with it's backdrop of distant trees and brush
The entrance is waterlogged and mud squelch
as we pick our way gingerly around
and choose a path on grass so feet don't sink
or slip and slide in danger of a fall
well wrapped in coats against the winter chill
enjoying sunlight after days of grey
a promise of Spring warmth in days to comeCopyright 2015 alilee. All rights reserved. FifteenMinutesOfFiction.com has been granted non-exclusive rights to display this work. For permission to reprint this item, please contact the author.
