Beyond the Paranormal: Prologue

Sweat ran down his face. He only had one chance…just one to pass through the portal and close it. He was ready, though he hadn't always been. There was a time when he was normal, well as normal as a 12-year-old could be…
It all started in the summer before 7th grade. As any normal kid would know that's when different groups begin to form among children. However, there was one group that formed, this was no ordinary group. This was a group of talented young teenagers who each had a unique gift.
These people would discover that they had more in common then they thought. Some of the people were well renowned heroes, like 'Transforming Ted' or 'The Fireball.' Others like Ryan, Mike, and Nicolæ were smart, strong, or had the skills of a ninja. Then, there was Luke; Luke was the one who was just determined and focused at whatever he did.
The man, Zach Masters, who united them, is someone who is trying to understand their situation. The first time they all meet sparks fly…
"I'll roast you," 'The Fireball' boasts. It was their first meeting with Mr. Masters and everyone seemed to think that only one of them would be trained to be a true hero.
"Welcome my young heroes!" Said Zach.
"Heroes, what do mean heroes?" Exploded Fred, 'The Fireball.'"
"You may not have thought this, but you will all be trained. If you survive the first test!" Suddenly, Zach transformed into this freak-like cross between a vampire and a demon. He was about 30 feet tall padded with armor and had a demon-like tail that he could turn into legs with more armor. His armor was black and red; he also had fangs, wings, and massive claws. His name was Energíco, and he was a well-known villain to the hero base in space. He thrust his claws into two giant computers on both sides of him. The lights and flashing screens on the computers dimmed and Energíco ripped them off the floor and flung them at the teen heroes…!
Immediately, the heroes sprang into action and fought back. Fred flew out of the way, and Ted, Ryan, and Luke ran aside. Nicolæ begin a series of flips off walls and landed a kick in Energíco. Mike caught one of the computers and threw it back at him; the computer was completely destroyed by now and Ted joined the fray. Luke had just recently noticed a collar on his upper arm towards his shoulder. Luke picked up a piece of wire from the ground and picked the lock on the bracelet. As soon as the bracelet was off he felt empowered inwardly, as though his spirit had leveled up on a video game or acquired a new power. He used this newfound power and, searching deep within himself, he tapped into his spirit and unleashed its power!
"Spirit Speed!" He cried from his trance-like state. He shot towards Energíco and rammed his leg. Energíco transformed his feet back into their true form, the demon tail. Mike grabbed the tail whirled Energíco around a few times and when Mike let go Energíco's back crashed into the wall. Fred let loose shooting about one fireball every 3 seconds for about 45 seconds rendering Energíco immobile long enough for the other heroes to land a few blows. Ted's arm turned to goop and reformed into the shape of a sledgehammer and took a swing at Energíco and did some damage. Nicolæ did some flips and jumps and reached Energíco's head, he swiftly landed a kick to his face. Finally, Ryan took out his homemade tech-arm and planted his fist to Energíco's gut, leaving him unconscious.
"Well done Gentlemen," remarked the real Zach, "You will all be trained."
"WHAT? I cannot train with these bunch of babies!!" Shrieked an invigorated Fred.
"Excuse me," commented an upset Ryan, "But we may not be as weak as you claim we are."
"Yes, yes, yes," said Zach slyly, "You can prove that tomorrow morning in the training room at 5 o'clock. Now step into the tele-tube and you'll be beamed to your rooms…they have been specialized to your liking."
The heroes did as they were told; Luke was busy carefully inspecting Zach's every move. Once in his room Luke collapsed to the floor. Using the power from his spirit drained him quite a bit. He felt tired and a good nights rest would do him wonders. As he fell asleep he had a dream that he was floating around in an alternate reality he saw five spirit-powered warriors in cool looking super hero suits on behind them was a great and powerful hero. Its goodness blinded the warriors of evil and allowed Luke to float by all of them. He reached out to touch the hero and vanished…

Beyond the Paranormal: Chapter 2: A Turn for the Worse(pt 1)

Luke shot awake. What had just happened? What did it all mean? And what time was it? 4:57! He was going to be late! He ran for the door but strangely there wasn't one, so he ran to the tele-tube. He punched in, on the control panel, the location of the only room he knew of: the main entrance. He wasn't sure where the training room was but he figured it wouldn't take long with his newly acquired 'Spirit Speed.'

He made it there about a minute early. He heard Zach in a back room talking to...this was odd...it sounded like Energico! But that was impossible; he had been delivered to the 'Hero Base in Space.' Just then Fred and Mike walked in quibbling over who was stronger.

"I'm telling you there's more to my power than fire." Proclaimed Fred.

"Oh yeah, why would Zach invite me here if there was someone stronger here," Mike paused to let it sink in, "it's the whole reason I'm here!"

Zach ended his conversation with what Luke thought was Energico, and walked into the room...

"Good morning everyone!" Exclaimed Zach.

The Heroes gave a murmured reply. Zach proceeded to show the group how to use the technology in the training room. After his tour he let the heroes freely train. Luke seemed genuinely interested in the combat simulator. At 5:45 a tone sounded, and the heroes were prompted to go to another room. In this room there were a large number of computers and some scanners attached to the computers - although they didn't scan pictures in, it was more like a mind probe. These computers, using the mind probes, scanned the heroes’ minds gathering information on their favorite designs, color schemes, and logos. It used this data to create a full-body suit for the hero. Luke's was all black with purple gloves, belt, boots, and a circular logo on his chest. He slipped into it and a logo appeared in the purple circle. The logo was two P's diagonal to each other.

"The Purple Power!" He whispered to himself. No, he thought, his dream couldn't be coming true. He looked up and saw the other heroes in their outfits, and then he was positive that his dream was coming true.

Later, at lunch, he showed the arm bracelet to Ryan.

"Ryan," he started, "I need you to build an injector on this that can drain the energy from this tiny glass chamber and transfer it into an object. Can you do it?" An out of breath Luke handed Ryan the half-working arm bracelet.

"Sure, just let me finish my lunch," Ryan replied coolly.

"No it can't wait!" Luke said sternly. "Look I need it done now!"

"All right, I'll need a three-pronged needle," Ryan replied unshaken by Luke's outburst, "you know like on an extension cord..."

Minutes later Ryan was done with the bracelet and the two were on their way to power class. Luke slipped the arm bracelet into the pocket of his jeans.

"What do you think this class is about anyway?" Luke asked Ryan.
"I don't know...wait! Zach said something about giving us powers, not sure how though."

Once they arrived there they noticed some antique armor sets dating back to the 1500's. In the back, next to Zach, there was a machine that boasted the name "The Enhancer."

"Now students I suppose it is time I give you the powers you'll be trained to use." Zach said with a gleam in his eye, looking closely Luke swore he could see some form of evil lurking within Zach. "Now step into 'The Enhancer' and unleash your true power!"

Luke’s thoughts raced, he knew the arm bracelet was how Zach would give the others their spirit powers. He would have to either run away or make a stand here. He looked up, it was his turn everyone else was done - man that machine was quick - he would have to stand and fight!

"Power up!" He shouted. As he said it, purple energy encompassed him and it exploded out of him in a flash of light. Once lights stopped flashing he found himself in his hero suit. It shone with elegance that flooded the room. He felt stronger now, as though his spirit was now on the outside and his human self was within himself.

"I won't set foot in that machine." Declared Luke with a newfound boldness. The other heroes powered up in similar flashes of light and different colored forms of energy. Once they were done they found themselves in the hero suits Zach had given them.

"Awesome suits Zach," said Nicolæ with a child-like naivety. That was all Luke could take, three of the quotes from his dream had been said. He charged at Fred and nailed him in the jaw with a swift uppercut, leaving the other 'heroes' stunned and clueless. Zach grabbed some handcuffs from one of his pockets and smacked them on Luke. Luke fell into another spirit trance and cried out:

"Spirit Sifter!" At that moment Luke turned intangible and the cuffs fell through his hands he rocketed through the wall and out of the building heading straight for his hometown: Deckam City.

"this seems kinda stupid when i reread it now but...here it is..."

Beyond the Paranormal: Chapter 2: A Turn for the Worse(pt 2)

“Don’t just stand there, get him!” Shrieked Zach. The others quickly obeyed and ran out the door. They approached the city where Luke stood in anticipation of their arrival.

Mike was the first to strike; he picked up a massive boulder out of a heap and hurled it at Luke.

"Spirit Strength," Luke cried, and seconds before the boulder was to crush him he caught as though it were a rubber ball. Then using his strength he tossed it right back at Mike. Mike turned, not having expected Luke to be as strong as he had demonstrated, and was nailed by the very boulder he'd thrown at Luke.

Seemingly out of nowhere, Fred drilled Luke with a flamed uppercut. 'The Purple Power' recovered quickly and, searching deep inside himself once more, he cried:

"Vorpal Bomb!" He held out his hand and his hand and in it a minute vortex appeared. It began draining energy from everything in front of him, including Nicolæ. After a few moments the vortex dissipated and a laser shot out of his palm and into Ryan, leaving a total of three of the now villains unconscious.

Once Luke awakened from his spirit trance he found himself being whirled around and around, his leg in the clutches of Fred, 'The Fireball.' Before he could react he was being thrown into a nearby building of Deckam City. Just as he was to become part of an office building he flipped around and used the force of the throw to rocket off the building without harming it.

"I can fly!" Exclaimed Luke, surprised at how many powers he'd used in one day. He continued flying straight into 'Transforming Ted' at which point he could stop and look for Fred.

Where was he, Luke thought, he wouldn't run away from a fight. Luke knew not to get his hopes up. He looked up just in time to see Fred pound his face in. Luke fell to the ground and after feeling powerless for a moment; he leapt hovering a few inches above the ground. Fred drifted down to the ground and called out a challenge to the young hero:

"What's the matter wimp can't hit what can't see!” Suddenly, he vanished...he didn't go anywhere he was simply invisible. Luke didn't know what to do he'd never fought an invisible enemy before. Come to think of it, he'd never fought anything before. However, he did know that his power derived from his focus. So he did what he knew worked: he placed his fingers on his temples and focused. Suddenly, another boulder lifted off the ground and no one was holding it! Luke, immediately assuming that it was Fred, removed his hands from his temples and prepared to fight; but oddly, doing this caused the boulder to fall to the ground. It was then that he realized that he had moved it; he was telekinetic!

Fred laid a good blow to the side of Luke's face. Luke got up as quick as he could and used his telekinetic power to throw the boulder at Fred, or at least where he thought Fred was. Luke heard a smacking sound. He had aimed accurately and Fred was down for the count.

"Finally, I can rest." Sighed a relieved Luke.

"Think again..." came a voice from the shadows "...you can't rest, not when Zach's after you."

"Who are you?" Luke asked cautiously, "and how do you know about my affiliation with Zach?"

"Relax boy, I'm not your enemy, although I do know quite a bit about you." The man stepped into full view, although there wasn't much to see, he was a man in a cape with a technologically advanced staff. There were slightly indented rings running through the larger cylinders on both ends of the staff. He was clothed in robes and armor; his face was covered so only his eyes could be seen. He also had a set of robotic gloves and some lightweight titanium boots.

"I am the Spirit Seeker of the past." Said the man a dark glare in his eye. It reminded Luke of Zach. He questioned the man slyly:

“How do you know of Zach?” Luke questioned with a glare of his own.

“Zach is my nemesis,” proclaimed the ‘Spirit Seeker,’ “and I have been searching for a spirit-human to challenge Zach, but he is too strong and everyone I’ve sent failed. No one could even get to his chamber to fight him. It would seem as though I have failed.” At this time Luke was intrigued, he thought that he might learn how to fight from this man. Once he had acquired the skills needed to defeat Zach he would betray this ‘Spirit Seeker’ and keep all the power for himself. It sounded good but he would have to find out how tough this guy was, and he knew just how to do it…

“Follow me,” ordered the ‘Spirit Seeker,’ “I’ll show you the way to my lair, you’ll find suitable training tools there the technology of them having far exceeded that of Zach’s cave men tools. By the way my name is Kais.” He started to walk away.

“Just a minute,” Luke started, Kais froze, “I won’t go with you until I get the chance to fight you.” By now Kais was shaking, he couldn’t reveal his real identity now, it was far too early. He thought about a means of escaping the fight and, after a brief moment of silence replied:

“I’ll fight you, but I won’t let you live if I win.” He turned to face Luke and his staff made a whirring sound, as though it were charging a laser. Then, one of the larger cylinders on the staff pulled apart into three pieces, each one with a sharp point at the tip. The tips channeled electricity through them and formed a condensed ball of electricity held in place by the three pieces of the cylinder. He did this within a matter of seconds, Luke just stood petrified at what he’d just seen while trying to hide his fear.

Beyond the Paranormal: Chapter 2: A Turn for the Worse(pt 3)

“W-What?” Luke aroused from his slumber and sat up. He was in a bed in a secret abandoned laboratory. He recognized it immediately; it was the place where his brother Mark and he had played as kids. It was about 6 years ago…

“Luke, come in here…look at this place. No one’s here, we can make this our new clubhouse.” Unfortunately that was also the place where Mark died…3 years later…

Mark was pretending that he was an astronaut; pushing every button he could, accidentally turning one of the machines on. Unmistakably, he had activated the laser cannon Luke now saw before him. Luke turned only to see a cold lifeless fourteen-year-old body fall to the ground. Luke was only nine at the time, and that was more than he could take. He ran home only to find his apartment building reduced to rubble by a powerful black energy warrior. Luke ran full throttle back to the abandoned lab and hid. However, when he awoke he held no aggression towards this black beast. His spirit had been calmed…

Luke now knew why, Zach had found him while he was sleeping and placed that bracelet on him. It stopped Luke’s anger from taking form as his spirit-human form. Although he wasn’t sure for what reason, Luke knew Zach wanted all the spirit-humans on his side. Before he could finish his thought Kais walked in…

“Sleep well?” He asked not even turning to face Luke. He seemed disturbed, stressed, and restless; as though he had been awake while Luke was sleeping doing some difficult exercise. At any rate, Luke was ready to train with Kais and he was willing to let himself be heard.

“When do I start training?” He asked eager to kick some butt. Immediately Kais turned and charged up a “Static bomb,” as it was called, and pointed it at Luke.

“It begins now!” He declared evilly, and aimed the static bomb at Luke. Reacting as fast as he knew how Luke cried:

“Power up!” Purple energy shot out in beams from his belt at increments revealing only half of his human self. The beams then shifted to one direction and stopped so that the other half of his body was visible, but not his human body: his spirit body. This not only changed his outfit but his hair color, changing it from its gleaming blonde to a still vibrant purple. The energy beams pulled in and charged him up to full fighting strength, ready for action. He took a fighting stance and…

“Spirit Strength!” Luke cried and he thrust himself at Kais. Not a moment before he would’ve hit Kais, Kais dodged it. That was something he did not expect, but he was still ready.

“Spirit Speed!” He cried as he thrust himself at Kais once more. Kais barely dodged that one, but this time he shot the ‘Static Bomb’ at Luke. However, by now Luke was moving so fast Kais, “Missed by a mile,” and Luke ran up a wall. He then shoved off the wall and, doing a back flip in mid-air, landing behind Kais.

“Vorpal Bomb!” He cried and after a moment he shot the laser at Kais, causing him to fly into the wall; but not before he hurled his staff at ‘The Purple Power.’ Once Luke revived from his trance and saw the staff whirling at him, he leapt up and let out a terrified yell that tapped into his spirit energy and sent a ‘Sonic Surge’ through every electrical device within ten feet in front of him. It also disrupted the staff’s power, causing it to fall to the ground as harmless as a stick. After emerging from this trance Luke noticed that everything lay in ruins, everything in front of him that is.

“What happened?” He inquired of Kais.

“You,” responded Kais calmly, “You happened…and you destroyed what I spent 2 years creating, well actually this part only took 6 months, but it hurts all the same!” If he could’ve seen Kais’ face he would’ve known he was crying, but he veiled his face quite well.
“You will pay for what you’ve done!” He burst out in anger, then he stated more calmly, “But I’ll let go of my anger…for the time being.” Suddenly a working machine sounded an alarm. “It’s the other spirit-humans, they’re attacking the city. Here take this communicator and go!” Kais handed Luke a small metal earpiece and Luke took to the skies as fast as he could.

“Good,” Kais said quietly to him self, “that will give me some time to fix this mess!”

As Luke flew toward the city, the laboratory was a few miles from town; he began to wonder what would’ve happened had Zach never placed that bracelet on him.

Would I be corrupted? He thought, would I be stronger as a hero, or would my anger have destroyed me…? He was approaching the city and it would require all of his focus and effort to defeat the other spirit-humans. So he put his confusion out of his mind for the time being.

"SORRY! I haven't been on in like...half a year!!! Anyway, sorry again, and here's the next part..."

Beyond the Paranormal End of Chapter 2

The city was in dire straits when ‘The Purple Power’ arrived. People were running everywhere and screaming. Although there wasn’t much to scream about, as far as Luke could tell the other spirit-humans weren’t even there yet. A mumble came from Luke’s utility belt amidst the screams. The communicator! He fished it out as quick as he could and put it in his ear.
“Say again,” said Luke.
“I said the spirit-humans are invisible,” Luke heard some electrical zapping and a painful cry from Kais, Kais moaned, ”Just keep the innocent people safe…oh! Don’t forget about you’re telekinetic ability!” Of course! How could Luke forget about that?
“Ahhhh!” Came a scream from a huddled group of people, a piece of an office building about to crush them. Luke used his telekinetic power, because he had just thought about it, and tossed the piece of brick aside from twenty feet away.
“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” Luke whirled around to face the group of his former buddies. “You seem to be quite the potential boy, don’t you…? You’re spirit may be strong but your flesh is weak!” Fred declared.
“Head for shelter,” he shouted to the innocent bystanders. He readied himself for battle trying to remember all of his powers, so he could be ready for any attack they could throw at him. He immediately telekinetically threw a massive piece of tar at the group.
“Lava Shield!” Fred cried. He thrust his fist into the ground and a massive semi-sphere of lava from the ground to about eight feet above the ground formed around him. It was dome-shaped and the lava only made up the covering part, this was to assure Fred’s safety. It did protect him. However, when that piece of tar hit Fred’s shield, all of it melted on contact, with the exception of a few pieces that flew off to the side.
The only defect with this shield was that it only worked as long as Fred had his hand in the ground. The only flaw with his attack was that it feed off of Fred’s energy and kept the shield at full strength. As long as his hand was in the ground, his shield wouldn’t break.
The other spirit-humans didn’t have any shields however, so they flew out of the way. Luke had his hands full; they had trained all day while he had slept in. He decided it was best to split them up and then defeat them one by one. He started with Mike, the most headstrong of the spirit-humans. He began to taunt him, not a smart move but it worked.
“Hey, Mike, remember our last fight…” Luke paused giving an evil grin, glaring with a look that bore into Mike’s spirit. Somehow, the harder he looked the deeper into Mike he could see, almost as though he could read his mind.
“Yes I remember,” said Mike never taking his eyes off of Luke. Luke snapped back to attention and decided that he should probably finish his sentence.
“I was stronger than you if you remember correctly…” started Luke. The next thing Mike knew he was bonding with the roof tiles of a nearby office building. Luke was surprised at his strength because he had not called out ‘Spirit Strength’ to exert such a powerful blow. He turned and slammed Ted in the gut rendering him helpless.
How does he do that? Ryan thought to himself, how is he telekinetic? Slowly Ryan began to realize that it was Luke’s human trait, his focus, combined with his spirit power creating a spirit-human power: telekinesis. He wondered if maybe he had a similar ability…
Luke was in a fight with Nicolæ and he kept missing. Every time Luke lunged to take him out, Nicolæ would swiftly dodge it; this was a result of a half-human half-spirit power. Nicolæ had accidentally used his spirit-human power!
Luke was lunging every conceivable way trying to hit Nicolæ. He punched in every direction, and then he stopped. He looked around and searched inside himself for a new power, but instead of that he got an idea…
“Vorpal Bomb!” Luke cried this time holding out both hands to absorb energy. He held out his hands on both sides of him and began to spin around, this way no matter where Nicolæ was he would be slightly drained, enough to matter anyway. Luke turned to face his opponent, put his fists together, and released the power he had absorbed. A sonic boom rang out and a ‘sonic pulse’ shot out. It sent Nicolæ flying hundreds of feet backward, slowly plummeting, until he crashed into the ground: unconscious.
“Ahhhh!” Luke cried out in pain. Someone was attacking his mind; he turned around to see Ryan with his hands on his temples. His eyes were glowing blue and he was in a spirit trance. He was trying with every ounce of strength he had to take control of Luke, but Luke was more resilient than Ryan had predicted. Luke lunged at Ryan, only to have his own body betray him. His hands were forced behind his back where they could do little harm.
Luke pushed himself hard to regain control, draining most of his spirit energy in the process. He kept fighting and after about fifteen minutes of resisting control, he won. Ryan returned to his human state only to fall to the ground unconscious. That only left Fred, the enemy with the invincible shield.
Luke used his telekinesis to pick up a chunk of a destroyed building. He began bashing it as hard as he could against the incinerating heat of the lava shield. It didn’t do much good, almost all of it was incinerated but a tiny amount of soot managed to rain in through the shield, but it did little harm.
By now, Fred was a little drained from using his lava shield. He decided it was time to join the fray, although it wasn’t much of one, so he pulled his hand out of the ground and readied himself to fight. Luke took advantage of his momentarily weakened shield and hurled another two lumps of tar at it. The first hit the gushing lava weakening the shield but doing little damage to Fred. The second, however, Luke threw with all his telekinetic strength, and a section of the tar broke through the lava barrier and crashed into Fred’s right arm. By now the shield had dissipated to almost nothing and Fred had recharged and was ready to fight.
“Ring of Fire!” Fred cried. He flew up into the air, removed a ring with a ruby from his finger, and put a fist around it. He thrust that hand forward and a spiraling line of fire shot out in Luke’s direction. Luke had just seconds to react, but that was enough.
“Spirit Sifter!” Luke cried, turning intangible as he did so. He rocketed at Fred and not a second he would pass through Fred he became tangible. With a powerful blow Fred flipped backward a few times but he seemed generally unaffected by the blow.
“You bore me boy,” Fred said, aggravating Luke, “Now I will show you my spirit-human power.” Fred glared at Luke anxious to see his response, but Luke just glared right back as though he had a secret of his own.
“You don’t scare me, hothead!” Said Luke defiantly.
“Phoenix Strike!” Fred screamed. Suddenly, he burst into flames, every part of him, and he grew flaming wings. Luke, although momentarily petrified, decided that he should probably counter in some way. Fred shot like a bullet towards Luke, giving Luke no time to react, all he could do was wince. Fred’s inflamed body engulfed Luke completely. Luke fell to the ground, ablaze, he landed softly on his feet, but his body was badly hurt. He was weak, but his rage gave him newfound strength and power. Fred looked at his weakened foe and floated down to his level. Luke’s head was hunched over Fred thought he was sobbing. Luke looked up, his eyes were nothing but glowing purple light, he was in a spirit trance.
“Purple Strike!” Luke screamed, his anger bursting out as though he were a fountain. He clenched his hands into fists and perfect purple spheres of light encompassed them. He thrust them at the still enflamed Fred and two purple lasers shot out one from each fist. They nailed Fred and sent him flying into the air, about five seconds later he crashed into the ground. Luke fell to the ground barely clinging to consciousness, smiling. He had won.

Beyond the Paranormal: Chapter 3: A Friend in Need...(pt. 1)

Luke awoke in a field, still dazed from the fight. He surveyed the landscape he found himself in. It was a beautiful sight to see, the hills of beautiful grass, the brisk breeze blowing the flowers were they would, and a winged warrior with purple armor and a sword standing admiring its beauty. Luke approached the warrior and noted his readiness to fight.
“Go away,” the man said before he’d even seen Luke. Luke was startled but still crept forward. “I said, go away!” He declared more boldly than before but that didn’t stop Luke, he just kept walking as though he were spellbound.
Finally, the warrior whirled around revealing his dark complexion and his aggressive face, along with his black hair. To Luke, he looked pretty demonic with those hawk-like wings, it reminded him of Energico, and he readied himself to fight. He flung himself, fist first, at the warrior and he passed through him.
“I told you to go away,” he looked depressed, “bad things come to my friends…” just then Luke began to disintegrate. He just began to be blown away with the wind!

* * * * * *

Zach paced the floor. Where were they, he thought, how long had they been gone? He continued to pace the floor. He then, unexpectedly, burst through the doors and walked down the hall to the training room and as he walked in he saw an unusual sight…
Fred was floating in the air blowing up targets incinerating them to rubbish. He was also trying to quicken his reaction time, and to use moves without shouting them out for his enemies to here. For the most part, he was succeeding; in his anger he had used a ‘Ring of Fire’ move without calling it out and had done it with quick succession. Fred stopped, panting, he was tired but he had improved a great deal. If only the other heroes were as dedicated as this one, thought Zach admiringly.
“Hey teach, what’s up?” said Fred.
“I need you to do me a favor,” said Zach, “I need you…to tell me why you failed your mission!!!” Zach’s eyes were gleaming black with hate again, but this was the first time Fred had noticed (or cared for that matter).
“I’m sorry Mr. Masters, he was too powerful, and when I woke up he was gone,” he paused, hoping to get some sympathy or mercy, all he got was a punch in the gut. That ticked him off, his hair burst into flames. That was all he would stand for.
“Power up!” He shouted, his body was ablaze, and his hair burned brighter every second. After a few seconds, the fire went out, revealing his spirit-human suit; it also changed his hair from black to red (not orange, but red, real red). He knew in his heart he would lose the fight, but in his anger he disregarded his fear and prepared himself to fight. It was now, Zach decided, that he would reveal himself to someone.
A dark cloud swirled around Zach to the point where you couldn’t see him anymore. The mist swiftly circulated around Zach forming various unusual features such as wings, claws, and spiked armor stained with blood.
“Now you’ll get a taste of true spirit power!” He called out, but that didn’t matter to Fred, he was still ticked off pretty bad…

Beyond the Paranormal: Chapter 3: A Friend in Need...(pt. 2)

Luke was slowing vanishing, by now he had realized that he was dreaming. He also knew that his dreams were somehow associated with reality, like a psychic power. He had pleaded with the purple warrior to let him stay and help him, but this purple warrior was helpless. He couldn’t do anything, he mumbled something about unlocking your true emotions and then he left…
Luke sat up. It was dark out. He had slept all day, Kais must have rescued him otherwise the others would’ve found him and taken him to Zach. He was thinking about the battle when he wondered. I had a dream, didn’t I? He was curious as to why he didn’t recall it very well. He knew he had one, he just did not remember what it was; like a long lost memory or something similar to that.
He stood up and stretched. If Kais had rescued him, where was he? Luke was very suspicious of Kais at this point. He had decided to train Luke on a whim, and now he rescues him and leaves him hanging? It didn’t add up, was he hiding something, or he was killed. Luke was baffled, but he made up his mind not to worry about it right then. Some practice would do him good, especially with that new power.
Now that Luke was up and about more and more details of the battle came into perspective. Then he remembered how easily he had used his strength without calling out the attack. He concluded that it was probably his focus and practice that caused this improvement of his skill. However, it was still a wise choice to practice.
Luke powered up. It was always cool for Luke to morph into a hero, he thought of himself as a different person when he powered up. He had always admired heroes as a child, but no real heroes had ever come to his town. He had always thought that they didn’t care about his town or it’s problems. Mark had said that real heroes didn’t exist, if he didn’t see something he wouldn’t believe in it, simple as that.
While thinking all this, Luke had been practicing using his strength and speed without calling out the attack. He had even used one or two ‘Spirit Sifter’s’ without declaring the move, but one thing puzzled him: he couldn’t remember how to use that move he’d used to defeat Fred before he had collapsed to the ground.
After about an hour of training a siren sounded. Luke wasn’t entirely sure what to do and without Kais there to direct him it seemed impossible. This was bad, someone may be attacking the city, and Luke had no idea what to do…!

Fred was bouncing off walls. He was just barely dodging some of Zach’s simplest maneuvers. He knew that he would not survive unless he was to leave the battle mortally wounded. Especially with that demon armor that Zach wore, it was spiked and made of enchanted stone placed block by block for flexibility. Every time Zach struck Fred with it soot flung into the air, this limited Fred because every time he would throw a fireball it would ignite the soot and hurt him just a bit, but just enough to matter.
“I told you I would show you true spirit-power.” Zach started, halting his attacks momentarily. “Enough of this dilly-dallying. Try and handle this move!” Zach posed in a fighter’s stance and a ball of dark energy formed on his chest. It was a small sphere, but it was very dense and weighted down with a massive amount of dark energy. The worst part was, Zach hardly seemed affected from being drained of so much power. Fred knew he was screwed. In all his life as a super-hero he had never seen such a move. This was truly bad.
“Dark Wave!” Zach said. A dark flame covered his arm as he swung it at Fred. Fred dodged the punch easily, but as he spun around to face his opponent a wave of darkness flung him into the wall. It didn’t stop there; Fred was glued to the wall by the darkness as it began to seep into his body and his spirit. It was trying to control him!
“Firewall,” moaned Fred, he was barely able to speak but was conscious enough to see a wall of fire hit Zach back a few steps. This freed Fred of the dark grasp by which he had been temporarily immobilized and he fell to the ground. Fred got up slowly, with all the power he’d used it was a miracle that he had the strength to stand. His anger was still strong and his human adrenaline empowered his spirit to a new level.
“Phoenix Strike!” Called Fred with renewed strength. He burst into flames once more and drained all of his strength landing several powerful blows to Zach. Then, after his strength had completely left him, his flame dissipated. He fell to his knees; he wanted to fight on but was far too weak to move. So he just laid there, a lifeless heap, determined to win no matter what.
“I admire your determination,” said Zach, removing his helmet, “I’m proud to be your trainer.”
“How can you train me,” declared Fred with rekindled vigor. “All I’ve seen you do is hide behind something, be it armor, demons, or a spirit-human. Show me your power, not someone else’s skill or power, but yours. Show me what you can do.” Zach paused and analyzed Fred’s confidence of that statement. After a brief moment of thought Zach decided that it wasn’t worth the effort to demonstrate his power to a feeble pathetic excuse of a spirit-human.
Zach then turned and walked out of the training room an emotionless expression plastered on his face. Fred exploded annihilating half of the room with him. He charged out the door looking for Zach and charged him with a powerful fire maneuver.
