bug in a rug

bed to sleep
sleep sweet
sleep safe
safe to be
safe to be me
me not a bug
me not an insect
insect can be squashed
insect can be squished
squished to a pulp
squished flat
flat as a pancake
flat means no more
more of what
more of bug eyes
eyes multifaceted
eyes seeing black
black and white
black and grey
grey world
grey day
day and night
day so dark
darkness in my heart
darkness so bleak
bleak in my bed
bleak in my head
head to the floor
head to the door
doorway to a new life
doorway to freedom
freedom of wings
