The earth is feeling brittle as a rock
as green shoots slowly climb towards the air
the coldness meeting fragile leaves a shock
but frost and ice are part of natures care
the cold a sign that it is time to grow
to reach out to the palest wintry light
with whitest heads a nodding in the snow
Springs first herald following winters night
