Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by Elizabeth L on October 24, 2012
"I was recently on a 2 day, silent retreat in the Catskill Mountains of NY, where I really started learning how to listen to God, always near us, always present.

This website won't let you format - I'd originally planned for the quotes between stanzas to be in italics. They are from my readings during retreat and I fell in love with them. "

With the Children of Men

We wandered in the wilderness today, my God and I.
I raptured over clover dew; He marked the towering pines.

I will lead her into the wilderness, and speak to her heart.
Osee 2:14

“I’ve no great prayers, just simple nothings whispered in Your ear.”
My words were shy. -“My friend, My little one, that’s why I’m here.”

Return to Me, and I will return to you.
Mal. 3:7

We walked together, silent, in a hushed, autumnal lull. Then,
“You know, but I must tell You how this beauty moves my soul.”

Heaven and Earth and all things tell me to love You.
St. Augustine

“The phantom birch traced on the pond; blue skies that never end.”
My heartsong, halting, shared itself, and knew it had a Friend.

Sing joyfully to God, all the earth; make melody, rejoice and sing.
Ps 97:4

Orange butterfly; slim water reed. “Come, sit with Me a while.”
His peace en-wrapped the mountains; the sunshine held His smile.

What is man, that THOU art mindful of him? or the son of man, that THOU visitest him?
Ps 8:5

I sprang up, heart too human, oh, too poor for Majesty!
“Sweet Lord, I’m here; but why art Thou? What boon, my company?”

My delights were to be with the children of men.
Prov. 8:31

So quiet. “Lord Almighty, You have sought me all this time?”
So still. “...as if You needed me, and these nothings of mine.”
I knelt. “Now that You've found me, Lord, sweet Lord! what will You do?”
His Voice. “I’ll never leave you.” And my heart knew it was true.

Thou art the God of my heart, and the God that is my portion forever.
Ps. 72:26

He Who Loves and Is has sought my heart; oh heart, be true!
