"You won't find me in the usual birdwatching guides."

Strange Bird.

Hi. What can I tell you about myself? I'm a strange bird. I can't fly. And I don't like the water much. My dull plumage is more cotton fibre than feathers. I have long legs though and I look a little awkward when I walk - some birds do that don't they? I thought about eating a worm once when I was a kid, but I couldn't go through with it. And I know you're supposed to, but I'm not really sure I like the spring - it gets me kind of ruffled. I don't have much of a chest to puff out and I always feel stupid when I sing. I've met a couple of lady birds I liked, but they didn't stick around long enough to lay anything for me. I guess I'm just happier hiding in the thick stuff - brambles are scratchy though. And nettles - don't get me started! I prefer some leafy foliage or maybe a field full of flowers - they smell good. But there's a lot of dead stuff down there too that you need to avoid. Anyway, like I say, I'm kind of a strange bird. I wake up a lot of mornings and I don't really feel like a bird at all. But what can you do?
