"Friendship, we all want the best. But sometimes, life gives us something less."

Trusted Friends

I'll be your friend forever.....We'll always be friends. These are words that everybody wants to hear. That one person in the world who will be their friend until the end of time. How important are those words to the heart! The person who says such a thing is to be christined. They're put on a saint's status. They're the one person/people you want to stay in your life, continually by your side. Next to your spouse would be this perosn.

What if they all of a sudden hated you? SLAP! It feels like they just leveled you. You stagger like a drunk man and try to gain your footing. BAM! There it goes again! The hurt, the pain. All rushing in like a flood. You speak with your former friend and they let you have it. They've taken off the kiddie gloves, no they're going in for the kill. You silently bear onslaught after onslaught of their verbal
knives cutting in you like a dull knife through steak. You're tough, you can handle
words. You know the popular saying: Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me. Has anyone ever used that when it comes from a most trusted friend? No? That's what I thought. That only works on your enemies.

You let your guard down. You let them in. They take residence in your heart and
learn of your ways. They know secrets about you that you don't want anyone else to know. You've spent (or wasted?) countless hours with them. And for what?
A verbal killing. This should be outlawed. Telling another human being you'll be there forever and then making that void should be a felony.

You hang up the phone. Shock sets in, you can't believe what happened! What the @#$% you think. Sadness creeps in, you start to cry. Then anger, you call back determined to set this straight. You get the former friend on the phone and they're asking for your forgiveness? Just 5 minutes ago they were committing a felony and now they're sorry?! You hang up, you now have the option of letting go or hanging on. What do you do?

If you're like me, too much pain in your life forces you never forget. You eventually forgive, but you never try to make the friendship back what it was.
The truth is, if you're like me, deep down you've already died. You can't ever have the same friendship that you had with them. Too much pain in your life prevents it. Had it happen 10 maybe 15 years ago, maybe. But, not now. You don't have strength in you to make up that friendship. Even, if you wanted to.
Unless some higher power orchestrates it, I won't be friends with that person again.
