TowerMasters

by AlmanME

A story I have played with a long time. Always liked to create stories but haven't written as much as I would like. This is my attempt to formalize it more.

The following is a piece of writing submitted by AlmanME on November 3, 2011
"Just working on taking an old idea and turning it into something. Eager for any feedback or suggestions."

Talir & the Tower

Talir finished his sand painting and glanced at the darkening sky. The stars were just coming out. Talir turned to face the north. He could not quite see the tower from where he was standing. He turned from his painting and climbed the gentle hill before him. Far away, against the glowing sky he could see the silhouette of the Red Tower, standing high and alone on its lonely stub of a mountain. As the last rays of sunlight died away and the land gave itself over to twilight, a low hollow whistle emanated from the distant tower and floated lazily across the terrain, echoing in the woods and hills around the tower. As the whistle died away, a bright star appeared at the peak of the tower, shining like a beacon. The light quickly faded and the tower was again dark, sinking slowly in the oblivion of the night.
Talir turned, glanced at his sand painting, and hurried home. His mother was sitting on the front stoop, weary from a long day of laboring."
"Mother, what does the light at the top of the tower mean? It shines every night just at sundown."
"Oh Talir, I shall never understand the fascination you have with the tower. You should leave well enough alone."
"But mother, don't you ever wonder about the tower? Wouldn’t it be great to be able to see it up close? To go inside it!? Don't you ever wish you could meet the Tower Master?"”
"Absolutely not, " replied his mother.
