Strike Breaker

his voice quivered in a feeble but honest attempt
to win over the hearts and souls of the listening voting public

in a short but tiresome one-sided attempt to address
so many interrelated issues long overdue to be resolved

a layman in the audience snickered his disapproval
he was not alone in his expertise about the everyday concerns

the average population fidgeted and whispered comments
shaking their heads as they slowly rose in unison from folding chairs

in a line of disgust they exited from the poling place
leaving the supposed scholar, familiar by years of training in this field,

stammering in solitude and disbelief at the podium
and an empty box with not a single ballot cast

inaction among the underlings speaking volumes above
those few words from one of the unaware management gods
