Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by MarkHudson on December 26, 2010
"My niece and nephew were spoiled with too many toys, but there sweet kids nonetheless, and I love them dearly. Santa was pretty nice to me, too."

Do you still believe in Santa?

This Christmas year i was really blessed. My parents came in from Florida where they retire in the wintertime, and we had our usual Christmas Eve tradition of going out to a Chinese restaraunt called "Chin's" and for the last two years we've gotten the " Chin's plate," a mixture of egg rolls, bbq, fried rice, shrimp, etc. then on Christmas day it was out to see my sister and brother-in-law, and my niece and nephew, 3 and 5 years old. When we walked in, my niece and nephew had already been spoiled with a ton of presents, but there was a whole lot more. My niece and nephew kept saying cute and funny things, and i made a movie of it on my digital camera, but i'll have to wait till my computer is fixed to see it. My sister put out some auderves, pickles with cream cheese and ham, and my nephew ate a couple and said, " Wow, I wish I could eat a thousand of these."
Then my sister put out some shrimp and my brother-in-law said, " Are you going to have any shrimp, Ryan?' and he said, " NO, they're creatures." We all got a laugh out of that.
Then we opened the presents, and my brother-in-law and sister were trying to teach the kids appreciation for the gifts, but with so many gifts, it was hard to remeber who gave what. Apparently, my niece and nephew saw something on TV while with my mother and said, " That's what we want for Christmas!" And it was some type of pillow stuffed animal. They saw it once and wanted it...the power of advertisement. So mom said," We'll hide these in the car and see if they notice they are missing." But after all the presents were unrwrapped, they asked, " Is there anything Santa forgot to bring?" " No, we don't remember" and so they brought out the pillow stuffed animals. " Oh, now we remember." poor kids! too many toys! but they're sweet kids, nonetheless.
I happened to recieve some money and two special Faber-Castell pencils for drawing from my sister which in my personal opinion are the best drawing pencils in the world. I think they might be discontinuing the product, so i might try to stock up. i also got some clothes, and a copy of Vein of gold, by julia Cameron, which someone from my writing workshop said is one of the best books for studying the writing process(I already have the artist's way.) I gave my dad a book on cruises, the kids some stuff, and there were ten cookbooks i gave to my sister and mom to look through and choose which ones they want to take. they have recipes from around the world. maybe they'll cook something for me!
We had pot pies and spinach for lunch, which the kids barely touched because they just wanted candy. So Uncle Mark ended up pretending to be the Christmas monster and chasing them all over the house, up and down the stairs, boy do those kids have energy. They completely wiped me out, like they always do. i slept like a baby that night.
Above all, I see God's hand in the blessings of my life. It was a great Christmas. i hope you all have a safe and happy new year.
