Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by Bronwyn Wright on October 27, 2010

Solo

Cold and detached,
barely here,
intent on the whispering voices inside of me.
Looking for a reason to let go
to forget my solo.

I stand in the light and wonder
why the voices taunt me so;
why I can’t feel what those close call a glow
until I forget my solo.

I feel my body burn.
I feel the spotlight press down on me.
I fight against the light but realize
it is my sweet reprieve
from my very own solo.

I float away and wonder:
For what has it been?
Why was I there?
What purpose may I serve
in the life I know beyond the light?
May what has happened prove not
to destroy my very own solo.
