Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by Jill on January 3, 2010

I Resolve...

I resolve to be happy.
I resolve to step back and take a look at my life and figure out how I can reach happiness.
Its a journey, a long journey for most, to find this supposed happiness for longer than a day or two. It takes a lot of time to dig through one's own life and find that spark, which means more than anything else.
Sometimes this is a person, a friend or a lover, but people can be ripped away due to their fault or your fault or the desires of the earth of which we have no control.
I want to find more than someone else,
I want to find me.
I can't find me by lying.
Not even white lies, if I'm not okay, I will not claim to be.
It doesn't matter if others care, I care.
I resolve to do my best to make others around me happy, but never sacrifice my own happiness, because I've done that all too much this year. We all have.
Is it possible that I'm not meant for the conventional world?
Certainly, and it is a realization I must learn to accept.
Maybe music and poetry are all I have left,
but maybe music and poetry are massive
maybe they are what makes the world continue to spin
despite most peoples complete misunderstanding
of the way the world works

If one more scientist claims to me that they "understand the workings of gravity, because anything with mass attracts other things"
and I ask why and they can't answer,
I will feel sorry for them
as they realize though they may be "right"
they claim to always be asking questions, but
they didn't ask the most basics
because no one understands everything
which is why I have always done badly in science classes
because the teachers get so sick of me asking "ridiculous" questions

I resolve to be happy, and allow this happiness to take me anywhere it wishes.
