Writhing and swirling
Around my isolated island
It seeps through all defences and,
As a lie penetrates the heart, it soaks the very trees
to the marrow.

It obscures all vision
Smothering all living beings
In a suffocating blanket of
unending damp.
Finally the wind unleashes its wrath
Shooing away the freezing chill
with a howl.

The sky clears.
The clouds whiten.
The winter gathers up its icy cloak-
"I'll be back" it seems to say, "for fog can never stay away"
