A Trip to the Mall From A Young Man's Eyes

As the wind shivers the body of an impulse shopper, she turned right back around into the store and decided to look around one more time…you know, just in case she missed anything. She looked around and around, scanning through each rack- the purples, the oranges, the teals, the blacks, the mauves, the alices….

Her eyes were moving about 70 mi/hr until she saw something queer at a distance; a boy with disheveled hair whose shorts are too long, probably 6 or 7 years of age. He had a scar on his left knee and dust all over his hands. She couldn’t help but ask, “Hey cutie, what are you doing on the floor?”

“You see, I lost my tooth last, last week and my mother told me that if I put my baby tooth under my pillow, the tooth fairy will either give me money or a toy car. I could really use a new toy car but money is fine too.”

She looked at him with confusion written all over her face. There’s literally a humongous question mark over her head.

“So, why ARE you on the floor?”

“Listen, I’ve been asking my babysitter to take me here for weeks now and I’m not getting any progress.”

She was just about to give it up and walk away but decided to give it one last try.

“Progress?”

“Yes…I haven’t found the tooth fairy and I’ve been coming here everyday and I will keep coming here until I find her.”

“Ok, so why in the world do you think she’d be here?”

The boy looked at her as if she was a mythical character in one of his books. Almost irritated, he said,

“When I woke up, my tooth was gone. So I think that maybe she took my tooth and kept all my money.”

“And?”

“And I think that maybe if the tooth fairy has some extra money, she’d be coming here a lot like you, and my mom, and my sister, and all the girls at my school. She probably wants to buy things. Maybe she needs new wings….if only I could find the wing section, then for sure she’d be there. I just want to ask her for a toy car since she already took my baby tooth anyway... ”
