"Through no fault of my own, my son has grown onto a man of many qualities."

The Admiration of My Son

As my son was growing up I don't recall ever thinking that he would turn out to be a great individual, in fact, in his teen years his greatest accomplishment was not getting into trouble with the police. He toyed with school just getting by and the same with sports making the team but not playing hard enough to be first string.

His one true gift was electronics, it was something he truly enjoyed and so it was the one thing he worked hardest at. After high school he had no desire for college and just bummed around for a couple of years before deciding to join the air force. He told me the recruiter gave him a plan with the air force training him in the electronics field. He married his pregnant his school sweetheart and then went off to basic training.

The only time in the military that was good for him was his electronics training, the rest of the time he spent fooling around with his buddies and trying to stay out of trouble. His marriage went to hell which was not a big surprise to anyone and they divorced in a few years. The only good thing from the marriage was the lovely daughter they produced.

After getting out of the air force he was offered a position on the civilian side and he jumped at the chance. Rod's second marriage is much more successful and I think she has helped turn his life around.
Somehow he has managed to do two tours of over seas duty with the air force reserves, raised a family, and got his college degree in his mid forty's. He is in year round training and runs two Marathons a year. Both his wife and him do various community service throughout the year, things like serving Thanksgiving dinners to the poor and community cleanup projects.

So yes I am very proud of my son Rod and am in constant admiration of the man he has turned out to be.
