Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by R. Wesley Lovil on December 8, 2008

Anapestic Tail of Woe

I wrote this poem in minutes, and in a rush I pushed submit
Then after further reading, I saw the words, they did not fit
You see a poem need meter, not just lines that end in rhyme
So dear reader here is my rewrite, I hope you will accept
Along with me, you soon will see, as a poet I am inept
This poem is about Christmas, a season that is jolly
That still does not give us reason, for rushing into folly
We should have known better, but we didn't on that night
We only went to party, and yet we ended in a fight.
If only to be done over, or not to be done at all
Everyone would be happier, no one would have to fall
But everyone knows, that there is no, do overs in our life
You get what you get, whatever it is, no matter what the strife
The answer is clear, so very clear, it's not hard to understand
Do what is right the first time, and end up a happy man.
And so to you,Happy Christmas, and a Happy New Year
Be nice to your wife, the love of your life, and have nothing left to fear
