the water laps at the side of the boat. The wind fills the sails. She begins to heal to the leeward side.
Although temporary, the sounds of the waves and wind make my troubles go away. I no longer think of my heavy heart or the never ending battle inside, instead I focus on the jib sheets.
I look about me to see if any other boats or barges will be crossing my course. A feeling of freedom forces a smile on my face. I tack into the wind and duck as the boom crosses over my head. She cuts through a wake and the spray hits my cheeks. Words do not exist for me to explain the feeling one gets while sailing. My little boat moves along smoothly on the starboard tack. I can see other larger sailboats out. Their sails several feet higher, they heal with great force moving quickly through the water. Beautiful boats they are, crewed by multiple people. I realize how alone I am and again it forces a smile on my face. At that moment my dog lays his head in my lap and I feel bad for that last thought. "well of course I meant with you." I tell him and scratch behind his big soft ears. He smiles and pants and his eyes twinkle with conversation.

Good to see you getting back to what I know you like doing. I like your stories as I have saved the one you sent me a while time.
