Snake For A Day

I woke up this morning and everything was different. For starters, I couldn't feel my arms. I always start my day with a good old yawn and stretch, but this morning, though the yawn was quite impressive, the stretch simply didn't happen.

That was when I realized, I don't have any arms.

In a bit of a panic, I jumped out of bed. Except, I didn't, really. The aborted jump was what made me realize I couldn't feel my legs, either.

Cautiously, in the dim early-morning light, I peered under the blankets, trying to understand what was happening to me. My body had transformed overnight into a huge, undulating tube.

I was a snake.

No, it's not funny. I'll bet you never thought how difficult it would be to go through life with the body of a snake.

I couldn't turn on the light in my bedroom. I couldn't flip the pages in the book I'm reading. I couldn't put on my pants or my fuzzy bear-paw slippers. Nor could I get myself out of bed without falling flat on my serpentine snout.

Ever tried brushing your teeth without using your arms? I didn't think so. Makes me wonder why I've never seen any snakes suffering through the advanced stages of tooth decay.

And let's not even talk about the fact that toilet seats were specifically designed for an entirely different physique than mine. Let's just not go there. I already did. Don't want to again.

All in all, I don't really see this as a step up in the world. On a more positive note, though, I can't wait to hear little Sissy scream.
