Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by Evelyn-Grace on August 18, 2008
"This past fall my family and I were going through some trials. One day as I was talking with a friend about it she told me "life is not a bed of roses", but as I thought I about it became clear to me that life really is like a bed of roses. It has twisting paths like the branches of a rose bush it can take some unexpected turns that contain either flowers, leaves, or thorns. The flowers are the good times that will eventually die. The leaves are the dreams that we prepare for like the bush does all winter so it can be covered in the spring. And the thorns are those hard times in life, but the branch does not end with them like with the leaves and the flowers. It continues on and eventually ends with the good things. Wich are the blessings God gives us at the end."

Bed of Roses

Life is like a bed of roses,
With petals of memories it's filled,
New veins as each chapter closes,
And new leaves with each dream fulfilled.

Life cannot stand on just petals,
But it must have a stem to stand.
That is why God sends us trials,
To make us a firm place to land.
