Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by overmortal on August 9, 2008
"I discovered some while back that, when we make firm decisions in our lives about turning over a new leaf, or when we are freed from some bondage, the Accuser never fails to tempt us with it again, when we are the most vulnerable. It's not always right away. He chooses the time when his strike will hit us the hardest. In those times, slipping into an old sin or vice can be quite tempting. It's in those times we need to recognize the attack for what it is, and look to our Father to bring us safely through it.

As for me, so far, so good! Thanks, Lord!"

Habits of the Past

There is a past behind me
And a future lies ahead
I notice, though, the presence
Of a traitor in my head
He whispers things of long ago
Of habits of the past
Of things I'd rather not repeat
I see them in contrast

There is a line of thought, I fear
And places I would go
For temporary comfort there
That melts away like snow
Until the need arose again
Away I then would speed
To find a busom which, upon,
My selfishness could feed

I say it plainly in a verse
The past is gone and dead
It shouldn't be rehearsed upon
Or brought to now instead
For habits of the days of old
May seem to soothe the weak
But all that we would find there
Fills our Father's nose with reek!
