There is a handful (a very small handful) of pieces that has passed the editor's initial review process. These pieces are now sitting in their respective authors' "Anthology Page".

So, you'll want to check that page (Under My Page / Anthology). If you don't have anything there, don't get discouraged - this is a long process!

A few more pieces have passed through, so be sure to check your "Anthology" page. Primarily these are very short pieces (haiku, fibonacci poems, and a couple one or two paragraph stories)

Something I've been meaning to mention, but keep forgetting: when the editors list edits that we would like to make, and you approve those edits, the changes we make will not affect your writing as it appears on the site. We are storing a separate copy of your piece, and that is where we are making changes.

It will be up to you - at such time as we re-enable editing - to decide whether you want your piece (as published on the site) to match what appears in print.

*bump* time to check your Anthology page again. :)

Several more pieces were moved to the next stage last night, so be sure to check your anthology page (My Page / Anthology).

By the way, we're doing two passes on each piece we accept, because (with the sheer bulk of writing we're looking at) we may miss things the first time.

On the second pass, if we find additional errors/issues, we'll do one of two things:

1. I'll send you an email or site message letting you know of additional changes we want to make.

2. If the change is a very small but necessary one (which does not affect either style or meaning) we may simply make the change without letting you know first.

Examples of type 2 changes that we've encountered so far:

- finding a a repeated word in a sentence. (it's amazing how easy it is to miss something like that!)
- capitalization error.
- unnecessary commas, missing commas, or other punctuation errors

When we're all done, I will compile for writers lists of changes we made after first past so you can have a record of what has been done.

The editors have completed their first pass through the site, and have tentatively selected 90 pieces of writing to include in the anthology. Some of those are officially in, some are still undergoing minor tweaks and edits, and some are still waiting for you, the author, to review our comments.

So if you haven't checked your anthology page recently, be sure to do so soon. You can find the anthology page by clicking 'My Page' and then 'Anthology'.

What's next? Next we'll give you the opportunity to ask the editors to look at specific pieces you've written. Each author will be able to request up to 3 pieces for us to look at. Later on this weekend I'll post details of that process in the News Blog, so be sure to check back there later.

One week from today is the deadline for giving me your list of writings you would like us to look at. We've already got 31 pieces that have been submitted, but I know there some more authors out there who haven't submitted yet. Be sure to read the News page (click the "News" link at the bottom of any page) for details!

A bunch of pieces which disappeared into the dark, ugly abyss of editorial processing* have now returned to your Anthology page with a green checkmark, which means they have been approved for publication.

There are still quite a few sitting in the abyss, but they'll make their return to you soon.

PLEASE: Visit your anthology page and click EACH ITEM, and re-read it to make sure that any edits our editors have made did not either introduce NEW problems OR alter your intended meaning. Also, if you notice errors which escaped all of us, you can let me know by dropping a note on my profile page. However, please don't ask me to make changes purely for stylistic reasons.

Also, don't forget that you have just a few more days to request additional pieces for us to review.

* I think a bug in the anthology page caused a bunch of posts to disappear without reason - since I was concentrating on the OTHER side of the process, I didn't notice this. If you have questions about the status of any piece you've written, let me know.

I thought I'd give you a quick update on the Anthology progress. We are very, very close to having a complete and definitive list of the writings which will appear in the anthology. At current count it looks like there will be 110 pieces of writing included in this anthology.

Some of you have pieces of writing sitting in your "Anthology Page", waiting for you to approve revisions.

Very soon I will be sending out paperwork for authors to sign giving permission for their work to appear in the anthology.
