In case anyone is wondering, I don't have a particular direction for this story - I thought it would be interesting to explore a day in the life of someone whose mind is starting to fade.

"I thought it would be nice to do a serial story with a more "serious" tone."

This is a certainly a serious topic - I hope people who participate in this serial will take it seriously.

certainly a serious topic, I like it, I wonder where it will go

I built on Sylavash's characterization of Julian, making him a bit of a nervous, quiet, and uncertain boy. I also introduced some family members: Robert Sr. (Mildred's husband, presumably dead, since she thinks of him in past tense), and Julian's parents: Robert Jr. and Marie.

BTW, I'd like to point out that I haven't indicated whether or not Julian has accepted her invitation.

Haha, and neither did I. *evil grin*

To me it seems unlikely that someone would think it's unsafe to have a college age student living with an elderly person, which makes me lean in one of the following directions:

1. either there's something seriously wrong with Julian that father knows but grandmother doesn't.

2. Julian is making this up because he really doesn't want to live with his grandmother.

I'm curious to see where the next person will take this...

2. Is kind of where I'd been thinking of going with it...

but...
If he didn't want to do this, why did he come to ask his grandmother for her help?
what else was he thinking about then?

I suppose, Julian might have wanted advice, but never dreamed that his grandmother would actually offer to let him stay with her.

Of course, the really fun thing is - we can theorize all we like in this thread, and whoever takes the next scene might take all our theorizing and chuck it out the window and do something totally different! :D

Is anyone else going to jump in on this one? Or should I take another turn?

I can't think of anything to put here.

well I was hoping one more person was going to post before I posted again, but I could make another twist into the story if no one else wanted to.

Having chain stories was Katie's idea, but I don't think she's participated yet... :O

Notice that I did not say if he had accepted her offer.

Unfortunately, Katie has been very busy writing boring reports for college. Katie would very much like to participate, but can't seem to find the time. *crys a little*

In my next installment, I've allowed a couple months to go by, during which time apparently Julian never even returned to visit his grandmother again. And it also looks like Julian never discussed the whole idea with his parents, which means he was probably lying to his grandmother.

One of the earlier installments (Sylavash's) makes it clear that Julian really does care about his grandmother, so that's going to be a challenge to keep those things (the caring, the lying, and not visiting again) consistent in Julian's character.

Sorry...
Haven't been in the writing mood for a little bit, being a bit depressed. If someone wants to go ahead, I will post again later, if I try now the story may take an unrecoverable turn.
