Action Verbs

An action verb is a verb which describes something that someone or something is doing. Verbs like jump, walk, and run are obvious action verbs. Some less obvious action verbs are words like sleep or think, which don't seem very "active"; they are, nevertheless, things that someone or something can do so they are action verbs.

Some verbs are used as action verbs sometimes, but not always.

I felt fine.
I felt the top of my head.

In the first sentence, felt is a linking verb, but in the second, it describes an action.
