There are a lot of books out there which give information about good writing style. One of the the classics, recommended both in high schools and colleges, is The Elements of Style
by Strunk & White.
This little book seems far too short to contain a wealth of practical writing information, but the writers have followed their own advice to write concisely. Information about style, improperly used words, principles of composition and much more can be found in this sparsely written little book.
